The purpose of the Twinning Genetics Consortium (TGC) is to understand the trait known as “Twinning”. This project is divided into two parts: Dizygotic (DZ) twinning and Monozygotic (MZ) twinning.
So far we have carried out 2 large meta-analyses for DZ twinning and are planning to initiate the third round in 2023/2024. Knowledge of these genes may identify key mechanisms controlling ovarian function and can provide a greater understanding of female fertility and infertility, the most common reproductive disorder.
To investigate the mystery of MZ Twinning, we have performed the first meta-analyses for GWAS of MZ twinning and and published the first paper on the epigenetics of MZ twins in 2021.
